How to play

Connect Four is played on an upright board of seven columns and six rows. On your turn you drop a piece into a column, and it falls to the lowest empty spot. You choose the column, and gravity chooses the row. Get four of your pieces in a row — across, up and down, or diagonally — and you win. If all forty-two spots fill up with no four in a row, it's a draw.

Because the pieces stack, a lot of the game is about what's underneath. The spot you want might not be playable until somebody fills the one below it, and filling that one might hand the spot to your opponent.
