How to play
Ultimate tic-tac-toe is nine games of tic-tac-toe inside one big one. Nine small 3×3 boards sit in a 3×3 grid of their own, eighty-one squares in all. Win three small boards in a row and you win the game.
The catch is where you're allowed to play. The first move can go anywhere. After that, the square you pick inside a small board decides which small board your opponent plays in next. Take the middle square of any board, and their next move goes in the middle board. So every move is two choices at once: where you want your mark, and where you're sending the other player.
Win a small board with three in a row and it's yours. It's closed from then on, even if it still has empty squares. If you're sent to a board that's already won or full, you can play in any open board instead. A small board that fills up with no line is a draw, and it doesn't count for anybody or sit on anybody's winning row. Some rule sets give a drawn board to whoever holds more of its squares. This one doesn't.
